See the Director's This Epic Preview the Way It Was Never Intended to Be Seen.

The acclaimed filmmaker's legendary action saga, The Odyssey, is a film we've been eagerly awaiting since its announcement. It easily ranks among the most hotly anticipated motion pictures coming next year. In a festive surprise, a trailer has finally arrived, though it's hampered by YouTube's poor compression—maybe illustrating the director's choice to restrict the trailer solely for theatrical audiences.

A First Glimpse at the Legendary Cast

This first look showcases Matt Damon portraying the king of Ithaca. Audiences are introduced to Tom Holland playing the son alongside Anne Hathaway depicting the loyal wife. During an emotional scene, Penelope asks her husband to vow he will return, only for him to respond by asking what happens if he cannot. The trailer also offers a brief, shadowy glimpse at Polyphemus the Cyclops, whose flock are taken by the hero and his men during their arduous journey.

Adapted from a cornerstone of Western literature, The Odyssey follows the epic journey of the legendary King of Ithaca. Following his victory in the Trojan War, as told in Homer's Iliad, Odysseus endures an extended and hazardous road home.

Legendary Obstacles and a Star-Studded Lineup

Along his path, the hero encounters countless challenges and legendary creatures. These include the witch-goddess Circe, who transforms men into swine, and the deceptive Sirens. Regardless of these ordeals, Odysseus vows to overcome anything to reunite with his wife and son in Ithaca.

The adaptation's cast is remarkably star-studded. Joining Damon, Holland, and Hathaway is Charlize Theron portraying the shrewd goddess, alongside Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal.

A Story Repeatedly Told

The classic poem has inspired many reinterpretations over the years. Examples include contemporary versions and a late-90s dance production. There has even been a stage musical adaptation titled Epic: The Musical, presented as a multi-part album series.

The official trailer was long awaited following the project's reveal and a brief teaser that previously played exclusively in theaters. That footage later made its way onto the internet soon after.

To see a clearer version, the trailer posted on the film's official social channel might deliver enhanced visual quality.

The Odyssey will debut on global IMAX screens next summer.
