Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot including angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.
This warrior group consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the developments of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise started the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The antagonist then paid off his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
- The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- But, their position as important members in the powerful family could enable the party access areas they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The target is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Questers and Schemers tables.
Audiences can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
